Brewing guide, how to make great coffee at home

Whether you’re brewing at a campsite or at home, this guide will help you unlock the full flavor of our beans. Explore our methods, experiment, and make every cup an adventure.

1. Pour-Over: Clean and Crisp

Perfect for savoring the nuanced flavors of our single-origin Michigan-roasted beans.

What You’ll Need:

Lakeside coffee (medium grind, 15grams coffee per 8oz) 

Pour-over cone (e.g., Hario V60)

Paper filter

Kettle with hot water (195–205°F)

Mug or carafe

Steps:

Boil water and let it cool slightly (195–205°F for optimal extraction).

Place the filter in the cone, rinse with hot water to remove paper taste, and discard rinse water.

Add 15g of medium-ground coffee to the filter.

Slowly pour 30g of water over the grounds, let bloom for 30 seconds.

Gradually pour 225g of water in a circular motion over 2–3 minutes.

Enjoy your vibrant, clean cup! 

 

2. French Press: Bold and Full-Bodied

Ideal for campfires, or enjoying dark roasts at home

What You’ll Need:

Lakeside coffee (coarse grind, 15g per 8oz water)

French press

Kettle with hot water (195–205°F)

Stirring spoon

Steps:

Boil water and let it cool slightly.

Add 15g of coarse-ground coffee to the French press.

Pour 240g of hot water over the grounds, stir gently, and steep for 4 minutes.

Slowly press the plunger down to separate grounds.

Pour and savor the rich, bold flavors. 

 

3. AeroPress: Quick and Versatile

Great for hikers and campers needing a fast, portable brew.

What You’ll Need:

coffee (fine grind, 17g per 8oz water)  

AeroPress kit

AeroPress filter

Kettle with hot water (195–205°F)

Steps:

Place a filter in the AeroPress cap and rinse with hot water.

Add 17g of fine-ground coffee to the chamber.

Pour 220g of hot water, stir for 10 seconds, and let sit for 30 seconds.

Attach the cap and press slowly into your mug (30–40 seconds).

Dilute with hot water if desired, and enjoy!

4. Cold Brew: Smooth and Refreshing

A summer favorite for Michigan’s lakeside adventures.

What You’ll Need:

 Coffee (coarse grind, 100g per 32oz water)

Cold brew maker or French press

Cold water

Steps:

Combine 100g of coarse-ground coffee with 32oz of cold water in a jar or French press

Stir, cover, and steep in the fridge for 12–16 hours.

Simply press down on the plunger to filter 

Dilute 1:1 with water or milk, serve over ice, and enjoy
